Industry Sector
Siemens was chosen by one of the leading Taiwan liquid crystal
display (LCD) manufacturers to provide products and systems for
the facility management control system of the state-of-the-art
fab(fabrication facility).
Penetration of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market
continued via successful solution developments for various
applications, such as the 1- and 2-axis press feeder, paper
packing/folding/log saw machines and automotive assembly
equipments.
Siemens also helped Taiwan's machine tool builders to enter a
niche market for highly complex machines. Its cooperation with
the MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) further confirmed
Siemensˇ¦ determination to support the development of Taiwan's
machine tool industry. The project, namely the A+ R&D Center,
will encourage academia, research institutes and vocational
centers to build a machine tool talent pool for Taiwan. In
Taiwan's fast growing Photovoltaic (PV) Industry, Siemens
continued a success story as it was awarded the first
large-scale Polysilicon project of a major Taiwan polysilicon
manufacturer.
Siemens helped ADImmune Corporation meet the requirements of
validation for 21 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR),
Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S), and Good
Automation Manufacturing Practice (GAMP) 4 through Siemens'
total solutions.
Among the 11 countries in the world with abilities to produce
the H1N1 vaccines, the ADImmune vaccine plant is the biggest one
in Asia - with a maximum annual capacity of 30 million doses of
vaccine, and the only one to meet international standards in
Taiwan.
Siemens is providing building automation and fire safety
solutions to the Taoyuan International Airport Access MRT
Construction Project. It will improve the access traffic
service for the Airport, connect major transportation hubs and
build a close link between international airlines and local
transportation systems. After
the full operation of Kaohsiung Metro in September 2008, Siemens
is providing the after-sales services to KRTC (Kaohsiung Rapid
Transit Corp) to ensure a smooth operation. Siemens also has
various ˇ§Green Mobilityˇ¨ solutions for the upcoming projects to
meet the increasing demands on energy saving.
Siemens
had significant follow-up orders in the steel making & rolling
area and an order by a Kaohsiung shipbuilding company. Siemens
Marine Solutions convinced this new customer of its
diesel-electric propulsion and energy systems for a 5.8 MVA
total power research vessel. The scope includes system
integration of diesel engines and a super-silent DC propulsion
drive coupled to an efficient AC propulsion main drive.
Energy Sector
Siemens was awarded a contract to offer solutions to Taiwan
Power Company's (TPC) Kuosheng Nuclear Power Plant to provide
new low pressure steam turbine inner casing and rotors, which
will increase efficiency of this power plant by generating more
power with same fuel consumption. Siemens was also awarded an
eight-year contract "Parts and Service Supply Agreement" (PSSA)
for TPC's Nan Pu and Hsinta Power Plants. This contract will
ease administrative efforts for TPC and enable Siemens to
optimize long term planning for material needs, which results in
benefits for both parties.
Siemens provided a power supply system to Taiwan's largest steel
group--China Steel Corporation (CSC). The awarded contract
provides CSC with 161 & 33/11 kilovolts (kV) gas insulated
switchgear (GIS) and SCADA system. In addition, Siemens signed a
deal with Dragon Steel Corporation (DSC) on the Hot-Strip Mill
project, which includes 122 panels of 33/11kV switchgear, over
50 km of medium-voltage cable, 140 protection relays and the
SCADA system.
Healthcare Sector
Siemens has outperformed Taiwan healthcare market with a
compound annual growth rate over the last three years and proved
its strong foothold in Taiwan as it signed a contract with
Taiwan's famous cardiac center--Cheng Hsin Rehabilitation
Medical Center for 15 systems including Artis zee family systems
& Ultrasound systems and the first magnetic navigation system
for interventional cardiology solution. Another contract was
awarded from Lin Shin Hospital, a well-known regional teaching
hospital in central Taiwan, to supply the latest Siemens
healthcare solutions such as SOMATOM Definition AS +, Artis zee
biplane system, MAGNETOM Essenza 1.5T, Symbia E, Biograph 16 &
MAMMOMAT Novation DR. Siemens also involved local social and
charitable activities, such as sponsoring the SONOLINE G40
ultrasound system to Puli Christian Hospital to support the
health check for the victims of typhoon Morakot.
